Frequently Asked Questions
Here, you’ll find answers to the questions we get asked the most about when joining Pediatric Haven.
What is Pediatric Haven medical day center?
Our Medical Day Center is a PPEC. The acronym stands for Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care. In a PPEC center, children with special health care needs receive nursing intervention and medical supervision. A Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care Facility or PPEC is a non-residential, day treatment option created to care for children who are medically fragile. Pediatric Haven PPEC gives all children enrolled the same opportunities; caring for the whole child. Disciplines include nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and education.
Does the parent or family pay for care at Pediatric Haven?
The Pediatric Haven PPEC services are covered by insurance. We currently accept Medicaid, MSCAN (Magnolia), Molina, and United healthcare. Some private insurances also cover services, depending on the plan.
Pediatric Haven Therapy Solutions therapy services (PT,OT,ST and ABA) are covered by insurance. There are weekly childcare fees to be paid by parent/guardian.
What qualifies a child for the PPEC program?
An infant or child who requires some form of nursing intervention is a candidate for the program. A physician signs patient orders for PPEC services to begin. Typical needs include (but not limited to):
- Oxygen administration
- Tube feedings
- Tracheostomy care
- Frequent medication administration (such as IV medications)
- Ventilator management
Do you provide transportation?
Yes, transportation is provided with a certified medical escort but based on patient location. For more information, please contact us
Is this a daycare center?
Pediatric Haven PPEC is a nursing center. Infants and children in the program must have some form of nursing intervention. Staff caring for patients in the center are registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, aides and therapists with very specific pediatric experience.
Pediatric Haven Therapy Solutions is a childcare facility specialized for autism and other developmental delays.
Why is this good for my child?
PPEC offers so many advantages for a child with special healthcare needs, but among the key benefits are:
- PPEC centers are a more reliable health care option than home care services
- PPEC centers offer socialization for the child, reducing the isolation of home care services
- PPEC provides a central location for therapy services, promoting better coordination of care between nursing and therapy
Is my child at risk for getting sick in this environment?
No, they are not. Precautions and infection control procedures are based on protecting every patient in the center, as each is considered medically fragile. Foremost, patients who are sick or have symptoms of an infectious condition may not attend the center. Daily assessments for each patient and monitoring throughout the day maintain the overall health of our patient
population.
